Baxter Regional Medical Center's Inpatient Psychiatric Program for Older Adults is an acute, short-term program for patients aged 55 years and older in need of a secure, therapeutic environment 24 hours a day. Patients admitted to the inpatient service have an acute primary psychiatric diagnosis and exhibit severe symptoms, which may include one or more of the following: focus on non-specific physical complaints, confusion/disorientation, inability to care for self, depression, suicidal behavior and/or threats, aggressiveness/assault behavior, self-injurious behavior, sleep or eating disturbances, severe agitation, medication complications, psychosis, and obsessive-compulsive issues that interfere with daily living. The program is designed to quickly return individuals to their optimal levels of functioning outside the hospital through an intensive, structured, physician-supervised program that coordinates seamlessly with your services.
